Last weekend I got a wonderful Mother's Day gift. Rylee came into the kitchen on Mother's Day and said "Mom, something just crawled under your vanity." I thought she was messing with me, and I continued to ask her if she was joking. She said it had a long tail and looked like a big lizard. I looked under the vanity with a flashlight and saw this guy. He is about 7 or 8 inches long...too big for me to want around, especially in my bathroom. I went across the street to the neighbor's house to borrow a husband to catch this thing. He wasn't going to be home for a few hours so, Rylee and I blocked the doors with towels to lock him or her in until the neighbor could come catch it. Of course, my worse fear came true when he came to get it and couldn't find it anywhere. This thing was loose somewhere. The next day at work I mentioned the story to an animal-loving co-worker and she told me that if I could catch it she would come and pick it up. On Monday, Rylee found it under RJ's toys in the family room. She ran across the street to get the neighbor and he tore up the family room and successfully caught the lizard the this shoe box. My friend came and picked it up and it is now living happily in her back yard complete with pond and other creatures who are wanted. The other picture is one that I found on the internet of the same species. It is called a Southeastern 5-lined skink. So, cool looking but not something you want to see crawing across the floor in your house.
