The Virginia Aquarium

The kids have been asking to go to the Virginia aquarium for quite some time so, we finally obliged them and headed down there. The first thing we saw on the way in was the big tank with seals in it. RJ thought it was soooo cool. We had fun watching one of the seals biting his toenails (yuk) and swimming in circles. On the way out RJ and Rylee ran up and down as the seals swam back and forth.

There were a lot of exhibits that allowed the kids to have a hands-on approach to learning about science. Rylee spent a lot of time reading and learning and RJ well....he was very "hands-on".

The aquarium had a huge tank that is home to over 15 sharks and large fish. RJ has been talking a lot about sharks in a way that sounds as if he thinks they eat people and so it was great for his to see them in an environment where they seemed very peaceful. The kids even had a chance to touch the stingrays. Rylee remembers swimming with the huge stingrays in the Carribean but, for RJ this was a new experience. I was happy observing and Bobby was ready with the antibacterial hand gel :-)
